Sacroiliac Joint Fusion :: Week Six

Today I hit the six week mark and I wish I had better news to report. A few days ago I was getting ready for bed and realized that the sheet and blanket had come untucked from the foot of the bed. Without thinking I bent over and then lifted the corner of our very heavy king-sized mattress to tuck it in. I knew immediately that it was going to set me back. So for the last three days I’ve been icing and taking anti-inflammatories and muscle relaxers. The pain isn’t horrible but the muscles are tight and my surgery site is sore again. Burning in my hamstring. I don’t think I disrupted anything in terms of hardware, probably just strained some muscles. I am hoping that in the next few days I’ll start getting back to my old [post-surgery] self.

In addition to my little mishap, it’s been raining for the last few days. Lots of humidity and a chill in the air always causes my inflammation to flare up. So I’m trying to be patient and not fret about how good I was doing just a week ago. The good news is that I was doing so well, I forgot I had limitations!

My post-op appointment is in less than two weeks.

In other good news, my insurance did pay for my surgery, even though they approved it by accident. But when I called them to check on the status of things they noticed that the claim had somehow been processed wrong, and that I owed another $1200 out of pocket. Dangit! Oh well, I know some people are having to pay cash for it all, so I won’t complain.

This is the first time I’ve been impatient about my healing since I’ve had the surgery. I felt good that I was on an upward trajectory and now I’m having to slow it down again and regain the ground I’ve lost.

Live and learn.
